Lakeside High School Named Top in the State

by Georgia Department of Education (GDOE)

On January 13, State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox named Lakeside High School, led by Jeff Carney, principal, among the 20 Schools of Excellence in Student Achievement for the state of Georgia. The State DOE recognized 10 schools for student achievement in the top 10 percent in reading/language arts and math. Lakeside High was one of 10 to receive this distinction. The other 10 schools were recognized for the greatest continuous gains in student achievement in reading/language arts and math over the previous three year period.

“This is the third time for Lakeside High and I am very pleased that Lakeside High received this prestigious recognition.  This designation has more significance since it has been changed from a subjective process to an objective process with all schools being considered based on true results.  This honor exemplifies the quality teaching and learning found in Columbia County Schools,” said Superintendent of Schools, Tommy Price.

All winners will be honored at a banquet to take place in Atlanta on April 29th.

Previously designated Georgia Schools of Excellence and National Blue Ribbon Schools must wait five years to reapply for the recognition.  Other Columbia County Schools who have received this distinction: 2003- Evans High, 2002-Stevens Creek Elementary, 2001- Riverside Middle, 1999- Lakeside High, 1996 Evans High, 1993 Lakeside High, 1989 Harlem High, 1986 Evans Middle, 1984 Columbia Middle and Evans High
