INVOCATION:
Dr. Marty Baker of Stevens Creek Community Church conducted the invocation.

BOARD COMMENTS:
Board welcomed everyone back from spring break.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION:
Eight individuals, many parents at River Ridge Elementary, expressed concerns with the pre-k registration process held at River Ridge Elementary.

BOARD ITEMS:
The BOE gave tentative approval for the central office to plan on eliminating pre-k program starting 2008-2009 school year.

Ms. Buccafusco suggested a retreat with Mr. Nagle to review future system goals/priorities.


NEXT MEETING:
The next scheduled Board meeting will be a Study Session on April 24 at the Board of Education in Evans at 5:30pm.

Present were Superintendent Thomas A. Price, Chairman Regina Buccafusco, Vice-Chair Mildred Blackburn, Wayne Bridges, Mike Sleeper, and Roxanne Whitaker.

BOARD APPROVALS
Consent Items. 
The Board gave final approval of items: minutes of 2/27/07 and 3/13/07- February Financials, employee travel, fundraisers, partnerships, and camps. Also under consent items was the resolution honoring retirees, Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Columbia County Sheriff's Office, and the authorization to expend FY08 funds for textbooks, RESA order, and replacement computers.
Budget Amendments/Transfers. The Board gave final approval to the following General Fund or Special Revenue Amendments/Transfers: Budget Amendment No. 47 - Budget additional funds for the vocational extended day program ($4,673); Budget Amendment No. 48 - Budget additional federal vocational funds for system membership in the CTAE Resource network ($6,435);Budget Amendment No. 49 -Budget funds for Sample & Sons settlement; Budget Amendment No. 50 - Budget additional funds for federal school grant ($1,089); Budget Amendment No. 51 - Budget additional funds received for the Title 6B Grant ($25,013); Budget Transfer No. 6 - Transfer funds for Grovetown Middle special Board grant; Budget Transfer No. 7 - Transfer funds in the Title IIA grant to correct the private school allocation.
BOE Policies. 
The Board gave final approval to: Policy GBRIF - Bereavement Leave.

Naming of New Elementary School.
After reviewing the list of possible school names, the Board approved the recommendation to name the new elementary school in Grovetown - CEDAR RIDGE ELEMENTARY.

BUILDING PROGRAM
Project Update.   Mr. Price updated the Board on the various building projects going on within the county: painting at GMS;  Twelve classroom additions at Lewiston (view progress and River Ridge (view progress); the New Elementary School in Grovetown (view progress);  the New Middle School #3 on Blackstone Camp Road (view progress); and the New High School #1 on Chamblin Road to be completed July 2010.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
GDOE Report for the program review of Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education Programs.   Mr. Price presented the report from the GDOE onsite review held in October 2006.  The onsite review was conducted by an external team from other school systems and GDOE.  Many excellent practices were identified along with a recommendation to expand dual enrollment and course articulation opportunities.
Proposed Space Allocations.  Mr. Price  presented to the Board the space allocations for the 2007-2008 School year.  Nineteen portables would need to be moved this summer for additional classroom space to accommodate growth and lower classroom sizes. The Board authorized Mr. Price to move forward with recommendations.
Event Calendar. 
Mr. Price reminded the Board of a few dates: Budget Study Sessions, April 24 at 4:00pm, May 1 at 10:00am; Retirement Reception held at Westlake on May 1 at 2:30pm.

SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS:

There were no special recognitions this evening.

PERSONNEL RECOMMENDATIONS
On the recommendations of Superintendent Price, the personnel recommendations were approved as presented. 
 

New Assistant Principals Named for 2007-2008.  The Board approved the following new assistant principals for 2007-2008 School Year: Peggy Stoming, a teacher at Greenbrier High was named assistant principal at Harlem High and will replace Carla Sheldon; Tim Reeve, a teacher at Glenn Hills Elementary, was named assistant principal at Lakeside High and will replace Brian Campbell.
