INVOCATION:
Rev. Phillip Vestal at Harlem Baptist Church, presented the invocation.


BOARD COMMENTS:
The Board had positive  comments about  the educational discussion at the Chamber's "Not Just Coffee" event featuring Mr. Price, and other leaders from Augusta Christian, Augusta Prep, and CSRA Home School Association, the  homecoming weeks at area high schools, and the reception received from the schools that were visited by the state vocational site accreditation review team.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION:
There was no public participation at this Board meeting.

BOARD ITEMS:
The Board cancelled teh December 26, 2006 Board Meeting.

 

NEXT MEETING:
The next scheduled Board meeting will be a Study Session -on October 24 at the Board of Education Office in Evans at 6:00pm.

Present were Superintendent Thomas A. Price, Chairman Wayne Bridges,, Vice-Chair Roxanne Whitaker, Mildred Blackburn, Regina Buccafusco, and Mike Sleeper.

BOARD APPROVALS
Consent Items. 
The Board gave final approval of consent items: minutes of 8/22/06, 9/05/06, 9/12/06, and 9/14/06, August financials, employee travel, fundraisers, gift and donations, camps, and partners in education.
Budget Amendments/Transfers. The Board gave final approval to the following General Fund or Special Revenue Amendments/Transfers: Budget Amendment No. 9 -Matching grant funds for Greenbrier Middle (Georgia Federation Council for Exceptional Children--$200); Budget Amendment No. 10 -Funds for all 4 high  schools for athletic improvements ($40,000); Budget Amendment No. 11 -  Funds for state grant for high school graduation coaches ($160,300); Budget Amendment No. 12 -Budget salaries and benefits for 6.5 additional teaching positions over the original allotment ($441,000);  Budget Transfer No. 2 - Transfer funds for Follett Media Software - Title V allocation is less than estimate ($5,500).
 

BUILDING PROGRAM
Project Update.   Mr. Price updated the Board on the various building projects going on within the county: painting at Appling; Consumer science lab upgrades at CMS/HMS; Evans Middle (view progress);  New Administration Building (3rd floor completed 10/16/06);  Twelve Classroom Additions at Lewiston and River Ridge; the New Elementary School in Grovetown (view progress); and  the New Middle School #3 on Blackstone Camp Road (view progress). 
Curriculum for New High School Capital Outlay Application.  Mr. Price reviewed with the Board the classrooms/curriculum page for the new high school application to submit to the state for approval. The application included 86 classrooms and will allow advance of state funds ($15,719,398) to begin project and the balance ($30,000,000) will be covered out of SPLOST and other local funds.
 

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Announcement of Scholarship at Each High School. Energy Solutions, a company based in SC, has established a college scholarship offered to a student at each high school in Aiken, Columbia, and Richmond Counties. Report of Parent Conferences.
  Mr. Price updated the Board on the parent conferences held on early release day as reported by our schools.
