Feb. 28, 2006

BOARD COMMENTS:
Board members congratulated EHS boys basketball and GHS girls basketball.  Ms. Blackburn and Ms. Buccafusco visited the Capitol and met with legislators.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION:
There was no public participation.

NEXT MEETING:
The next scheduled Board meeting will be a Regular Session on March 14 at the Evans Government Complex at 6:00pm.

Present were Superintendent Thomas A. Price, Chairman Wayne Bridges,, Vice-Chair Roxanne Whitaker, Mildred Blackburn, Regina Buccafusco, and Mike Sleeper.

BOARD APPROVALS
Consent Items. 
The Board gave tentative approval of consent items: minutes of 1/24/06 and 2/14/06, January financials, employee travel, fundraisers, athletic camps, and partners in education.
Resolution Honoring Educational Leadership.  The Board gave final approval for the resolution honoring and preserving the rich heritage of educational leadership.  Photographs of previous superintendents will be transferred to the new administration building in Evans.
Budget Amendments/Transfers.
The Board gave tentative approval approval to the following General Fund or Special Revenue Amendments/Transfers: Budget Amendment No. 32 - Request matching grant funds for Martinez Elementary.  The school grant was received from the Junior League of Augusta ($500).  The Board gave final approval for General Budget Amendment No. 33 - Purchase six new portable classrooms ($135,000).
BOE Policies.
The Board gave tentative approval for: Policy BDH(2) - Waivers and Variances of High School Graduation Assessments; Policy JBDA - Students Release to Non-Custodial Parent; Policy GBRE - Extra Duty; and Policy GBRI - Personal Leave.

Bid Results-Buses. The Board gave final approval of the bid results and awarded the contract to Nalley Motor Trucks for the purchase of seven air conditioned school buses with underbody storage ($560,436).

BUILDING PROGRAM
Project Update.   Mr. Price updated the Board on the various building projects going on within the county: Evans Middle (projected completion date of 7/1/06), and the New Administration Building (projected completion date 5/17/06).
Approval of Contracts.
The Board approved Mr. Price's recommendation to award site improvement services to OneSource Development for the New Elementary School No. 6 (Grovetown) and New Middle School No.3 (Blackstone Camp Road).

Mr. Price reminded the Board of a few special events.

SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS:

SAVE THE COLUMNS


Bill Jackson, co-chair of "Save the Columns" Committee, provided a report to the Board on the receommendations from the  committee.  The Board gave tentative approval to transfer ownership of the columns to the Columbia County Board of Commissioners for placement in the memorial gardens/amphitheater outside the new library.
 

 

PERSONNEL RECOMMENDATIONS
On the recommendations of Superintendent Price, the personnel recommendations were approved as presented.
