BOARD
COMMENTS
Board members congratulated all retirees that were recognized at the
Retirement Reception held last week, and congratulated all students who
were recognized this evening and at honor nights across the County.
Special recognitions were noted to the high schools who made it to
playoffs.
BOARD ITEMS
The Board will set up a timeline for the
Superintendent's evaluation. The next Budget Study Session will be on
Wednesday, May 18 at 7:30am at the Board of Education in Appling.
NEXT
MEETING
Next meeting will be a Study Session on May 24, 2005 at the Evans
Government Complex.

Presgrove, Greenbrier High for being selected by the GA Chapter of the
American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese as Teacher of
the Year.

PARTICIPATION
There was no public participation.
BOARD APPROVALS
Consent Items.
The Board gave final approval of consent items:
minutes of 3/22/05 and 4/12/05, March financials, employee travel, fundraisers,
gifts/donations, athletic or summer camps, and school/business
partnerships. The Board also
approved addition of business participation to the CCBOE employee
incentive program.
Budget Transfers. The Board gave tentative approval to the
following General Fund or Special Revenue Budget Transfers: Budget Transfer No. 37 - Transfer funds in the
K-3 Reading and Math Grant for Euchee Creek
Elementary; Budget Transfer No. 38 -
Transfer funds in the Title II Grant for Euchee Creek. Special
Education Budget Amendments: IDEA Flow though Grant; Federal Preschool
Grant; and Capacity Building Grant.
Contract Bid Awards. The Board gave final approval for new
furniture (teacher desks & chairs, student furniture, cafeteria tables) at
River Ridge Elementary and awarded contracts to four vendors for a total
price of $166,720. The four vendors are: Virco, Inc., School
Specialty, Inc.,
Augusta Business Interiors, and Furnishings & Design, Inc.
The Board gave final approval for fire system installations at CMS, WES,
EES, and HHS by Southeastern System Technologies at a price of $175,775.
Resolution.
The Board gave final approval for a resolution to transfer bond proceeds
to SPLOST account.

BOARD APPROVALS (con'td)
BOE Policies. The Board gave final approval of Policy CGPH-Vacations
for Twelve Month District and Support Personnel. The Board gave
tentative approval for the following policies: Policy IDDM - Crossroads
Academy, Policy JCDA - Student Behavior Code, and Policy JCDB - Dress

BUILDING PROGRAM
Project
Update.
Mr. Price updated the Board on the
various building projects going on within the county: painting at
Harlem and Evans High, EHS Re-roof/HVAC & lighting upgrade, River
Ridge Elementary (projected completion date 7/18/05), Evans Middle
(projected completion date of 7/1/06, and the New Administration Building
(projected completion date 5/17/06).
Request from County for Sewer Connection to River Ridge Elementary.
Mr. Price presented to the Board the request from the County that we pay
$96,000 for a sewer connection to the county's proposed new sewer pump
location. The Board tabled the item and requested the county to
validate an equitable breakdown of costs for the new sewer location and
provide a total project cost analysis for the sewer connection.
Proposed Road Extension at Greenbrier High. Mr. Price
presented a map from Bryant Engineering (on behalf of Pollards Land
Company) that outlines an additional access road from the front of
Greenbrier High out to Washington Road. The Board requested additional
information before transferring any land or easements.
SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Special
Education. Dr. Franklin reported to the Board on the plan to
serve special education students in home school zone for 2005-2006.
A total of 13 students are affected in this plan. The county has employed
additional staff and provided additional training to implement the
inclusion model in the elementary school setting.
Community Newsletter. Mr. Price presented to the Board the first
of five community newsletters that will be funded and coordinated by 1st
Hour Communications.

PERSONNEL RECOMMENDATIONS
On the recommendation of Superintendent Price, the personnel
recommendations were approved as presented. Congratulations to
Brian Bowles, assistant principal (half time) at Lakeside Middle.
