BOARD COMMENTS
The Board wished a Happy New Year and the best to all our schools.  New BOE member, Mike Sleeper thanked Mr. Price and his staff for providing information the last few months in preparation for his new term.

NEXT MEETING
Next meeting will be a Study Session on January 25, 2005 at the Board of Education in Appling.

BOARD ITEMS
A date is needed to schedule a Board Retreat for BOE members to review goals and priorities.

SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS

Mr. Price recognizes Madeline Thorton, second grader at South Columbia Elementary, for first place in the(K-2) Bus Safety Poster Contest sponsored by the Georgia Association for Pupil Transportation.

Kathy Shuford was honored as School Social Worker of the Year for District 10 and is presented to the Board by the District 10 Chair.

PARTICIPATION
Christine Brown, representing 4th grade parents at Riverside Elementary affected by the re-zoning, requested that the Board consider a waiver option for rising 4th graders at Riverside Elementary.
 

BOARD APPROVALS/Discussions

Consent Items. 
The Board gave approval of consent items: minutes of 11/23, 12/14, and 1/3/05,  November financials, employee travel, fundraisers, partners in education, and sex education review committee.
Budget Amendments/Transfers.  The Board gave final approval to the following General Fund or Special Revenue Budget Amendments:  No. 27 - Budget the Title I Grant for Title I resources at ECE, NHE, HMS, and GTM  ($119,000);  Budget Transfer No. 30 - Special Board Incentive Grant- Brookwood  Elementary.
Zoning Options for New Elementary.  The Board gave final approval for Zoning Option 2 with waivers available for students in the Greenbrier and Stevens Creek zones.  The Board  asked Mr. Price to bring an amendment at a later date for discussion and approval of adding any waivers for Riverside Elementary.  Parents requesting a waiver are responsible for providing student transportation to and from school. Personnel Allocations for 2005-2006.  Mr. Price presented to the Board the professional personnel allocations for the 2005-2006 school year.  The allocations presented were for position's funded with local funds only and project a  minimum requirement  of fourteen K-12 teachers.
Calendar 2006-2008.  The Board gave tentative approval for the 2006-2008 calendars.  Go to www.ccboe.net

 

BUILDING PROGRAM
Project Update.   Mr. Price updated the Board on the various building projects going on within the county: painting at Greenbrier Elementary, stages- put on hold, and EHS Re-roof/HVAC. A fire destroyed insulation and perlite board, for the EHS Re-roof project, but will not delay the completion of the project.
New Elementary School.
David O'Neill, reported to the Board the the project is on schedule with 40% complete with a finish date of 6/30/05.  The Board approved a request for Change order of $14,073 due to change in building code.
New Administration Building/New EMS.  Grading for detention basin #3 is complete, with construction started on basin #1.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Legislative Priorities 2005.  Mr. Price presented the legislative priorities for 2005.  A copy is posted on our website at  http://www.ccboe.net/pr04.html.
Budget Calendar for FY06.  Mr. Price presented the proposed budget calendar for FY06.  Schools & Departments will have budgets ready by 3/25/05, with BOE Review from 5/10-6/14 and final BOE approval 6/28/05.
High School Task Force.  Mr. Price presented to the Board a list of the members on the new High School Task Force, which will be headed by Nettie Engels. The first meeting is scheduled for Jan. 18 at EHS.
Selection of Architectural Services.  Mr. Price outlined the process for selection of architectural services and allow the selected firms an opportunity to make a formal presentation to the Board. 
Timelines for Contract Renewal.  Mr. Price presented the personnel evaluation and employment timelines. Professional & Administrative contract due to HR 2/25/05.  Professional & Administrative evaluations must be completed by 3/28/05.
Special Dates.  Mr. Price reminded the Board of a few special dates:

  1. Teacher Screening Interviews: 2/4/05 and 3/4/05.

  2. New Member Orientation: 1/14/05

PERSONNEL RECOMMENDATIONS

On the recommendation of Superintendent Price, the personnel recommendations were approved as presented.
