BOARD
COMMENTS
The Board gave special recognitions to LHS FCCLA students for National
Honors, to EHS Athletic Booster's Club for completing modifications
to the baseball fields, to Mayor Trudeau for generous donations to
the Grovetown Schools and to schools who were visited by State
Superintendent Kathy Cox.

Next meeting will
be a Study Session on September 28, 2004 at the Board of Education in
Appling.
BOARD ITEMS
Board Member, Regina Buccafusco will hold a town hall
meeting Saturday, September 25, 2004 at 9:00am at Evans High School.

BOARD APPROVALS/Discussions
Consent Items.
The Board gave approval of consent items: fundraisers,
employee travel, gifts & donations, and partners in education.
Budget Amendments/Transfers. The Board gave final approval to
the following General Fund or Special Revenue Budget Amendments: No. 4 -
Vocational Agriculture Extended Day Grant ($20,636); No. 5 -
Vocational Agriculture Extended Year Grant ($8,481); No. 6 -
Vocational Youth Apprentice Grant ($1,500); No. 7 - Vocational
Supervisor Grant Revenue ($16,868); No. 8 - Vocational Agriculture
Extended Day Grant ($62,844); No. 9 - Vocational Industry
Certification Grant ($15,000); No. 10 - Vocational Professional
Development Grant ($5,928); No. 11 -Difference in Vocational Improvement
and Actual Grant ($10,005); Budget Transfer No. 1 - Special Board
Incentive Grant- Harlem Middle School.
Proclamation. Mr. Price introduced Andy Kingery who has
agreed to head up a committee made up of chamber and community members to
help mentor in our schools. The Board gave approval
for the proclamation designating October as Mentoring in Our Schools.

BUILDING PROGRAM
Project
Update.
Mr. Price updated the Board on the
various building projects going on within the county: stages, athletic facility at GHS and EHS Re-roof and EHS/HHS
HVAC bid opening 9/14/04.
New Elementary School. Curb and gutters have been installed.
However, rain and holiday have slowed progress. The Board approved change order #1.
New Administration Building/New EMS. The Board approved an
addendum for the 3rd floor. Finalized changes to drawing have been
submitted to Architect. Site can be viewed at

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Request
for Proposals for Architectural Services. Mr. Price
reviewed with the Board the RFP for Architectural Services for the new
middle school
to be completed in August 2007 on 30 acres of land in the eastern
portion of the county.
Report of SAT scores.
Mr. Price reported to the Board that "we are disappointed with the scores
and the total 12 point loss". However, he further indicated that we
need to educate our students and parents about the SAT. Mr. Price provided an
itemized list of SAT rankings He reviewed with the Board the SAT rankings
by total SAT score and by the number of students tested. (Click

GDOE Region 2 Leadership. Mr. Price reviewed with the Board the
planned partnership with the GDOE Region 2 Leadership Facilitation
Team and Harlem
Middle School. HMS was selected based on the annual performance
of students with disabilities on the CRCT. Because other schools face
similar challenges with special needs students, the partnership was
expanded to include all schools through the Special Services Department.

PERSONNEL RECOMMENDATIONS
On the recommendation of Superintendent Price, the personnel
recommendations were approved as presented.
