presentations, and actions of the Columbia County Board of
Education.

Present were Superintendent Charles R. Nagle, Chairman Regina
Buccafusco, Vice-Chairman Mike Sleeper, Wayne Bridges, and
Roxanne Whitaker. Pastor Charlie Stakely from Redeemer Presbyterian
Church conducted the

COMMENTS |
Superintendent Nagle asked that all remember the family
of Ida Scott, a teacher at Grovetown Middle School, who passed away
on April 13, 2009 as the result of an automobile accident. The Board
offered condolences to Grovetown Middle and to Ms. Scott's
family.

APPROVALS |
Consent Items. The Board gave final approval of
consent items: minutes of 03/24/09, employee travel,
fundraisers, partnerships, and program/camp employee
requests. The Board gave final approval for the Memorandum of
Understanding between Columbia County Board of Education and
Columbia County Family Connections for the expansion of the 21st
Century Grant for Cedar Ridge Elementary, Grovetown Elementary, and
Grovetown Middle (view MOU).
Board Policies. The Board gave final approval to
Policy BBBE - Board Members Compensation and Expenses. The Board
gave tentative approval to the following policies: Policy
GBRIC - Family and Medical Leave; and Policy KG - Use and Lease of

Textbook Adoption - 9-12 Math.
The Board gave final
approval for the high school math textbook
adoption from the math curriculum (view
textbooks).
Textbook Recommendation - Grovetown
High. The Board gave final approval for textbook
recommendations for the new career technology programs at Grovetown
High - cosmetology and broadcast-video (view textbooks).
Expend FY10 Funds for Textbooks.
The Board authorized
to expend FY10 funds for new textbooks at a total cost of $2.3
million. |
| BUILDING
PROGRAM |
Project Update. Mr. Nagle updated the
Board on the various building projects going on within the county:
re-roofing projects at EES ( view progress), MES, HMS, and LHS ( view progress); and Grovetown High School on
Chamblin Road (view progress). The Board waived the sealed bid
policy and authorized FM&O to replace the HVAC equipment at Blue
Ridge Elementary. The Board approved the low bid quote from
Rheem for the HVAC equipment ($74,937) and Holden and Associates for
the kitchen exhaust fans and fresh air units ($24,964).

Dates and Times for Rollback Hearings. Mr. Nagle
presented the dates and times for the Tax Digest Rollback Hearings.
The Board approved the schedule with the first hearing on Tuesday,
July 14 at 7:30 a.m.
