Columbia
County Board
of Education.

Present
were Superintendent Charles R. Nagle, Chairman Regina Buccafusco,
Vice-Chair Roxanne Whitaker, Mildred Blackburn, Wayne Bridges, and
Mike Sleeper. Reverend Dan Brown from Trinity on the
Hill
Methodist
Church
conducted the
invocation. |

SPECIAL
RECOGNITIONS |
There
were no special recognitions at this meeting. However, Mr. Nagle
introduced several students in attendance from the Chamber's Youth
Leadership Program as part of a community service requirement.

COMMENTS |
|
The
Board congratulated all the Teachers of the Year honored at the
Teacher of the Year Dinner and expressed appreciation to the
businesses that continue to support this event and others that honor
Columbia
County
School
employees. |

APPROVALS |
Consent
Items.
The Board gave final approval of consent items: minutes of
8/27/08,
9/9/08, and
9/23/08,
August financials,
employee travel, fundraisers, partnerships, program/camp employee
participation request, and gifts and donations. The Board gave
final approvals for the following: request for loan from Board for
beautification program, memorial park/outdoor classroom, and to
install/plant system, sod, trees and exterior fence line for
River Ridge Elementary; and request for waiver of Policy IED
(2) from Lakeside High.
Board
Amendments/Transfers.
The Board gave final approval to the following Budget
Amendments/Transfers: Budget Transfer No. 3 - To transfer
instructional centralized expendable equipment to cover replacement
sections of media circulation desk at North Columbia Elementary;
Budget Transfer No. 4 - To transfer instructional start-up funds
from Stallings Island to media and administrative start-up funds;
Budget Amendment No. 11 - To budget matching competitive grant funds
for North Columbia Elementary from Monsanto ($2,000); Budget
Amendment No. 12 - To budget additional instructional supplies for
schools whose enrollment exceeded budgeted estimates ($8,884);
Budget Amendment No. 13 - To budget matching competitive grant funds
for Martinez Elementary from Food Lion Foundation ($1,500);
Budget Amendment No. 14 - To budget matching competitive grant funds
for Evans Middle (Monsanto grant of $1,000) and Grovetown Middle
(Toshiba grant of $1,790); Budget Amendment No. 15 - To budget the
Perkins IV Professional Development Grant ($13,322); Budget
Amendment No. 16 - To budget the difference between the vocational
grant's estimated budgets and the actual grants received ($45,310);
and Budget Amendment No. 17 - To budget matching competitive grant
funds for Lewiston Elementary from Junior League of Augusta ACE
Program ($500).

BUILDING
PROGRAM |
Project
Update. Mr.
Nagle updated the Board on the various building projects going on
within the county: reroofing projects at EES, MES, HMS, and LHS; and
Grovetown
High
School on
Chamblin
Road
(view progress).
Bid
Results. The
Board approved the bid results and awarded contract for re-roofing
projects to Young's Roofing and Paint
($473,122).
