COMMENTS |
The Board
expressed congratulations and appreciation to Mrs. Harrell and John
Deere. The Board commented on a positive Board Retreat and
thanked everyone who responded to the survey. The Board also
recognized our newest system-wide business partner - Dominoes for
providing pizza before the BOE
meeting.

APPROVALS |
Consent Items. The Board gave final approval of
consent items: minutes of 8/12/08 and 8/26/08, July financials, employee travel, fundraisers,
partnerships, gift donations, and GBU-Code of Ethics for
Educators.
Budget Amendments/Transfers. The Board gave final
approval to the following Budget Amendments/Transfers: Budget
Amendment No. 7 - To budget matching grant funds for Martinez
Elementary from Kroger Foundation ($2,000); Budget Amendment No. 8 -
To budget the CTAE Industry Certification Grant for Greenbrier High
Healthcare Science ($15,000); Budget Amendment No. 9 - To budget
matching competitive grant funds for Stevens Creek from Hille
Foundation - Foreign Language Program ($10,000); Budget
Amendment No. 10 - To budget vocational program funds from the
Chamber of Commerce ($15,000);
Board Policies. The Board gave final approval to the
following policies: Policy JBD-Absences and Excuses; Policy JH
- Student Activities; Policy KM - Visitors to Schools. The
Board gave tentative approval to Policy JGFG - Accidents/First

Bid Results. The Board approved the bid results and
awarded contract for custodial supplies to Augusta Janitorial
Supplies ($310,484).

PROGRAM |
Project Update. Mr. Nagle updated the
Board on the various building projects going on within the county:
reroofing projects at EES, MES, HMS, and LHS; and Grovetown High
School on Chamblin Road ( view progress).

| SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT/ANNOUNCEMENTS |

Enrollment Update. Mr. Nagle reported on student
enrollment. As of September 3, 2008 there were 22,787
students, which is 191 under the projected enrollment figure.
Principals will continue to monitor enrollment as a few classes are
approaching the maximum allowable class size.
SAT Year-to Year Comparison. Mr. Nagle provided the recent
SAT results as reported by CollegeBoard. (view report).
Important Dates. Mr. Nagle reminded the Board of a few
dates:
- Early Release/Parent Conferences: September 18
- Teacher of the Year Banquet - Savannah Rapids Pavilion,
