Columbia County Students are Recognized by College Board

Please note:  This is a correction from an earlier release that did not include an additional 20 students from Lakeside High.

Columbia County Board of Education is proud to announce that 136 students have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program Exams.

Students took AP Exams in May 2007 after completing challenging college-level courses at their high schools.  The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school, and to receive college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance in the AP Exams.   The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students’ performance on AP Exams. Columbia County students who received grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams were recognized with AP Awards in four categories: National AP Scholar Award, AP Scholar with Distinction, AP Scholar with Honor, and AP Scholar.

National AP Scholar Award - this award was granted to Jian Huang of Lakeside High for receiving an average grade of at least a 4 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these AP Exams.

AP Scholar with Distinction – this award was granted to a total of 30 Columbia County students (one student at Evans High, eleven students at Greenbrier High, one student at Harlem High, and seventeen students at Lakeside High). Students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

AP Scholar with Honor – this award was granted to a total of 33 Columbia County students (six students at Evans High, six students at Greenbrier High, three students at Harlem High, and eighteen students at Lakeside High). Students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

AP Scholar – this award was granted to a total of 65 Columbia County students (eight students at Evans High, twenty-three students at Greenbrier High, five students at Harlem High, and thirty-six students at Lakeside High). Students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams, with grades of 3 or higher.
