Columbia County Board of Education
Names Charles Nagle Superintendent of
Schools
Term begins July 1, 2007
EVANS, GA---On
January 23, 2007, the
Columbia County Board of Education approved Mr. Charles Nagle as new superintendent
of schools starting July 1, 2007.
Wayne Bridges, chairman of the Superintendent Selection
Committee recommended Mr. Nagle to the Board and the Board approved his
recommendation with a unanimous vote. "Even
though it has taken several months for a final candidate to be selected from
the search committee, the process worked,” said Chairman of the Board Regina
Buccafusco. A superintendent
search committee was formed in September with equal representation from the
school system and members from the community.
The committee established criteria for applicants, reviewed 19
applications and narrowed down to the final candidates to interview. “I want to praise the committee for its
efforts in the search process and am in no doubt that the committee made the
right choice in the final selection,” added Wayne Bridges, search committee
chair.
“I’ve worked side by side with Mr. Nagle the past eight
years and am confident that he is well prepared to lead the system through the future
challenges that face our county. It also
helps that he knows the system and is well respected among staff and parents,”
said Tommy Price, who will retire on June
30, 2007, but remain through June 30, 2008 to assist Mr. Nagle in the transition to his
new role.
Nr. Nagle has a bachelor's degree from Georgia Southern
University, a master's degree in from the University
of Georgia, and an educational
leadership degree from Augusta State
University. Prior to his current position as associate superintendent
of student support, Mr. Nagle has also served as principal of Riverside Middle,
principal of Riverside Elementary, assistant principal of Riverside and Lakeside
Middle, and teacher at Harlem High. His experience outside of Columbia
County has been as athletic
director in Evans County, GA
and teacher/coach in Tattnall County, GA.
