Department of Juvenile Justice Offers Special Workshop for Parents

Columbia County students and parents will get a chance to hear one of the state’s popular educational speakers. In conjunction with state funding from the Children and Youth Coordinating Council, the Department of Juvenile Justice and the Columbia County School System are bringing in Keith Deltano, The Teaching Comedian, to speak to middle and high school students and their parents as part of the state-mandated health curriculum that emphasizes sexual abstinence until marriage.  Keith will be speaking to the students on April 24 – 27, 2006.  He will be conducting a free workshop for parents on the evening of April 27, 2006 at 6:00p.m. at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion, 3300 Evans-to-Locks Road, Martinez, Georgia, 30907.

Traveling over the United States with his unique comedy style, Keith Deltano strives to shed some sense on today’s tough issues.  Not wanting to be interpreted as a typical stand up comedian, Keith combines humor, audience interaction, props, and facts into action filled performances. Each of Keith’s shows deal with various issues such as racism, judging, sexual abstinence until marriage, and substance abuse.  “There are so many problems in today’s society and I believe that humor can be key in addressing these issues. Humor helps to break down people’s defenses and opens them up to listen,” Keith says.  “I want the youth to be entertained when I perform, but primarily I want them to know that I care and, more importantly, that there are alternatives to the negative insanity they see and feel every day.”

During the week of April 24 – 27, 2006, Keith will be performing his show Join the Real Majority for Columbia County’s middle and high school students. Join the Real Majority will have youth face the harsh risks of premarital activity.  Keith will take this topic on with candor, humor, stories, energy and facts.  His style is wide open but his presentation remains appropriate for the school setting.  Keith will also equip the students with things to say and do to help them handle the pressures of their peers and today’s society.

On April 27, Keith will also be presenting his workshop for parents, How to Promote Abstinence in a Sex Saturated World.  This candid presentation will give parents ways that can help start a conversation with their children about sexual abstinence. During the workshop a drawing will be held to give away a bike and an I-Pod.  The workshop is free and is offered to all parents. The workshop begins at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, April 27 at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion.  For more information about Keith Deltano, call Freedom Entertainment at 1-888-772-9683.
