Columbia County
Board of Education Declares
“Early Snow Days” on September 26 and 27
Holiday is an effort to conserve fuel as directed by
Governor Perdue
In a 2:45pm conference
call to all Georgia School Superintendents, the Governor and State School
Superintendent Kathy Cox requested that all school systems declare Monday,
September 26 and Tuesday, September 27 as holidays in order to conserve fuel in
light of the shortages that are anticipated due to the evacuation of the Gulf
Coast.
Columbia County Board of Education will comply with the
recommendation of the Governor and State Superintendent and close school on
Monday and Tuesday. We recognize the
importance of taking a precautionary measure in anticipation of the effects of
Hurricane Rita.
Weekend activities will continue as scheduled, however, all
extracurricular activities for Monday and Tuesday are cancelled. Students and employees will report back to
school on Wednesday, September 28. The
Board of Education will meet for its Study
Session on Tuesday in Appling.
