Curriculum
The implementation of the county curriculum as adopted by the Columbia County Board of Education will be the responsibility of all administrators and staff members.
Curriculum guides which outline goals, objectives, and course content have been developed at each subject area/grade level in the curriculum. Teachers are expected to follow these curriculum guides to insure the county adopted curriculum is implemented as required.
The Columbia County Board of Education shall provide staff development programs designed to assist public school administrators, including principals and instructional supervisors, in expanding their knowledge and skills in planning and managing a systematic program to improve instructional and supportive services.
There must be consistency among the schools of the county. Changes in the program for any school will be subject to the approval of the Superintendent of Schools.
Only educationally sound materials and resources are to be used in the classrooms for instruction. These materials must be approved by the principal to insure compliance with county adopted curriculum.
All copyright laws will be followed by the school system employees.
Controversies regarding a challenge of reading matter or other forms of instructional resources are to be resolved according to the reconsideration procedures outlined in Procedure IFA, Instructional Media and Equipment.
Only field trips which are educational in nature will be considered for approval. Requests for field trips must have the Principal’s approval and must be submitted for final approval at least two weeks prior to the date of the trip, if possible.
Professional staff members will teach only subjects for which they have been contracted. Professional staff members will not discuss side issues or discuss provocative issues that would be a detriment to the teaching process and would not enhance the learning procedure.
Each school shall observe special days and holidays deemed of value for traditional or patriotic purposes.
