Once these attributes
become an integral part of the program, success will naturally
follow.
A wrestling program is a
collection of people. The team is made up of individuals; each
with his or her own personal goals, strengths and weaknesses.
We as coaches must recognize and accept
the traits of each competitor and find a way to integrate them
into the team. To be successful, a program must not only
consider the wrestlers. While a team is made up of competitors,
a program is composed of much more. A program is a community
made up of the competitors, ex-competitors, coaches, fans,
support staff and, most importantly, the families of the
competitors. Involving the parents and siblings of the wrestlers
as a part of the community can be an effective means of
establishing a sense of team unity. The fans, support staff, and
families should always be included in the program's quest for
excellence.
